Measure like a pro: the secrets of taking successful measurements

Before diving into the excitement of choosing the materials and colours for your new kitchen, you’ve got to start with the basics: taking proper measurements. But don’t panic! Here are all our secrets about how to measure up to pro level.

Prep like a pro

Before you jump in, clear out the room. Get all obstacles out of the way so that you can take measurements unimpeded. You want to keep plenty of space to circulate freely all around your room. Our pro tip: to get around any clutter on the ground, take the measurements at the height of the middle of the wall.

For equipment, nothing comes close to a laser for total precision. But if you don’t have one in your kit, a good old tape measure remains a faithful old friend. For small, hard-to-reach corners, your smartphone can come in handy, but remember to manually check larger areas for reliability.

Practice proper technique

You’ll want to choose a peaceful moment that’s safe from the family’s comings and goings to launch this important step of your project and avoid any possible confusion. Once everything is out of the way, get started on measuring your walls, including the windows to keep your numbers exact. To save the results of your measurements, we suggest that you first sketch out a map of the room on a sheet of paper. This will help you not only to orient yourself, but also to visualize your future room.

Beware of the classic mistakes: like misreading the tape measure or forgetting the openings. And remember, even if you turn, your paper stays fixed!

For architectural specifics like angles or recesses, keep your measure horizontal as if the wall were droit and note the measurement as precisely as possible, but don’t fret: our Groupe 3R experts will double-check all of this in detail when they come over.

A few pointers to be even more pro

Here’s a simple but effective tip: when you draw your room, start by the entrance and don’t move your sketch. This way, your door will be facing you on the map, and this will prevent you from losing your bearings.

To note your measurements well, no need to complicate your life. A simple blank sheet or ideally graph paper will do the trick. Forget complicated Excel sheets, this is all about being practical and efficient.

The final word

Rest assured, these measurements are mainly for your first discussions in the showroom. At Groupe 3R, our experts will come and retake and refine these measurements to guarantee a perfect result.

So, are you ready to play the interior designer? Grab your tape measure, pencil, and who knows: perhaps this first step will make you want to go further to customize your space with new handles, ceramics or even a daring wallpaper.
